An event exploring our future with robots, part of the Economic and Social Research Council Festival of Social Science
Until only recently the River Trent was biologically dead and was confirmed as one of the dirtiest watercourses in Europe! To add injury to insult, engineering works gutted the river into a monotonous, trapezoidal, conveyance channel disconnected from its floodplain. Things had to change! And this is what we did.

Professor of Environmental Remote Sensing, Mark Danson, explains the ongoing work with one of his PhD students, which looks to measure the structure and species composition in forest and woodland canopies.
Mike Rogan works as a Professor of Zoology at Salford, and specialises in parasitology. His research involves looking at a distinctive type of parasite in dogs, and how this can actually affect humans and their health and wellbeing.
Professor of Conservation Genetics, Stefano Mariani, discusses his research into aquatic organisms and his fascination with life beneath the water.
Dr Priya Mondal's research looks at the effect of chemicals, in particular heavy metals such as arsenic, on human health. Here, Priya explains how arsenic is problematic for countries such as India, where it is present in common foods such as rice as well as drinking water.
Dr Mike Wood talks about his research into the impact of radiation on wildlife, specifically within the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
