In 2024, the festival is tackling the extremes of our world, with visitors having the opportunity to get hands-on with some of science's most cutting-edge developments through multi-sensory experiences, immersive events and hands-on family fun.  

Our flagship contribution this year is delivered with Professor Chloe James who will be sharing her bacteriophage research in a family friendly way. Here’s a glimpse of what to expect.

A science art collaboration with Salford University. Exploring the microbiome of the human gut and its significance to health, wellbeing and the critical medical challenges facing us.

Documenting the technical installation of AquAIRium: an immersive dry aquarium that brings sight and sound of the ocean to life in an art-science installation co-created by Digital Artist Paul Miller, Prof.Andy Miah and the University of Salford for Manchester Science Festival 2017.

2013

2013 saw the seventh Manchester Science Festival. This year's highlights included building a huge Rube Goldberg machine contraption right in front of visitors' eyes; the stunning 'Synthesis' art exhibition at Victoria Warehouse; and the conceptual 'Eye & I' installation taking place in one of the city's busiest shopping centres.

2012

The University of Salford at Media City UK hosted a special exhibition of telecommunications, television and vintage computers. The event, entitled 'From Semaphore to Smartphone' was staged on 27th and 28th October, as part of Manchester Science Festival 2012.
