The University of Salford has a diverse range of staff developing its esport strategy, including scholars in health, life sciences, arts and media, and business.

Global Esports Federation

Prof Andy Miah joins the Global Esports Federation as a Commission Member for Education, Culture and Wellness. A global organization with a base in Singapore, the GEF is composed of senior executives from a large range of sports, gaming, and digital tech companies.

Over 2 days, the University put together an esport expo within Manchester Science Festival showing people everything from traditional forms of esport competition to virtual reality experiences, which show the future of esports.

National Esport Conference

The University of Salford Digital Cluster in collaboration with the Centre for Sports Business and World Gaming Executives hosted a one-day symposium on the 2nd November 2016 at the University of Salford at MediaCityUK on eSports and the Future of Sport.

Teaching

Graduates from our game development course have gone on to work in variety of fields across the games industry ranging from level/game designer, 3D artist, tools/engine programmer and producer. Graduates have gone on to work for a variety of employers ranging from Travellers' Tales, Sony, EA, Sega, Smashmouth Games, Namco, Blitz, and Virtalis.

Will Super Mario Ever be an Olympic Sport? (2016)

“With Tokyo hosting the next games, perhaps we can expect to see a version of Pokemon Go out there, encouraging spectators to be more physically active. This might even fit in better with the Olympic Games. But for now, Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog are the official games sponsors – so we can expect to see much more of them four years from now.” Professor Andy Miah
