Brain Box #MCRDay16

The theme for Manchester Day this year was "Brain Box" and is inspired by the European City of Science title held by the city across the entire year. Our resident neuroscientist Dr Gemma Lace Costigan (School of Environment and Life Sciences), along with Professor of Telepresence, David Roberts (School of Health Sciences), each set up spaces within the Manchester Town Hall to introduce people to .

At the same time, our festivals expert Dr Gary Kerr helped to produce a Science Ceilidh making sure that everyone on the streets was dancing to the sound of science.

Across all the activities, the aspiration was to engage people more with the science behind our brain

The Brain Box was a unique collaboration between Manchester City Council, The University of ManchesterSalford University and Manchester Metropolitan University, with contributions from the Museum of Science and Industry, the Stroke Association, Alzheimer’s Research UK, Parkinson’s UK and the National Autistic Society, along with many other contributors. The Brain Box is also funded by the Wellcome Trust and the Physiological Society
